Writing a summary that lands
Do
- Lead bullets with the delivery and reliability numbers recruiters scan for: deployment frequency, lead time, MTTR, uptime, and cloud cost saved.
- Mirror the job posting's stack exactly — if it says EKS, write both Kubernetes and EKS; if it says IaC, name Terraform. ATS matching is literal.
- Spell out both the abbreviation and the full term at least once (CI/CD and continuous delivery; IaC and infrastructure as code) so every parser matches.
- Keep it one clean column and one page (two if you have 8+ years). Multi-column "designer" templates scramble in older ATS parsers.
- Quantify automation wins in hours and dollars — "saved the team 6 hours per release" and "$150K/year in cloud spend" are defensible and memorable.
Avoid
- Listing tools as a wall ("Kubernetes, Terraform, Jenkins, Ansible…") with no bullet showing what you built or improved with them.
- Describing duties ("responsible for CI/CD") instead of outcomes ("cut deploy time from 25 to 6 minutes").
- Omitting reliability metrics — no uptime, MTTR, or SLO numbers on a role that is fundamentally about reliability.
- Using a two-column template that hides half your experience from ATS parsers.
- Claiming every tool under the sun; recruiters probe depth, so list what you can defend in an incident-response scenario.
