Writing a summary that lands
Do
- Quantify delivery in the terms PMs are judged on: on-time %, on-budget %, budget size, team size, and stakeholder count.
- Name both methodologies you've run — Agile and waterfall — and the tools (Jira, MS Project, Smartsheet). ATS matching is literal, so mirror the posting.
- Put PMP, CAPM, or CSM near the top; for many PM roles the certification is the first ATS filter.
- Lead each bullet with a strong verb and a scope: 'Delivered a $2.3M rollout...' beats 'Responsible for project delivery.'
- Keep it one clean column and one page (two only at 10+ years). Two-column layouts scramble in older parsers.
Avoid
- Listing duties ('responsible for project timelines') instead of delivered outcomes with numbers.
- Omitting budget size and team size — recruiters use them to gauge the scale you can handle.
- Claiming 'Agile' with no ceremonies, artifacts, or velocity numbers to back it up.
- Burying your certification at the bottom when it's often the first thing an ATS screens for.
- Using a two-column 'designer' template that hides half your experience from ATS parsers.
